AFTER 68 YEARS, A LOST RECORDING OF DAVID AMRAM LIVE IN GERMANY 1954 - 2013 BECOMES AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON AFTER THE FALL RECORDS.
MARCH 16, 2022 (Brooklyn, NY) - By the early 1950s, David Amram was on his way to becoming one of the most influential composers of our time. While drafted and stationed in Germany with the US Army, Amram formed a group with trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff and the finest young jazz musicians in Europe. They played together at the Jazzkeller Club in Frankfort almost every night. The Armed Forces Network Radio asked Amram and Albert Mangelsdorrf to play a spontaneous concert to be broadcast live. Gathered around a single microphone, David Amram
leads the band on the French horn, with a young Atilla Zoller on guitar, Albert Mangelsdorff on trombone, Harry Schell on bass, Karl Sanner on drums and Jutta Hipp on piano. This live recording constitutes the A side of this album.
It’s a miracle that after 68 years this previously lost recording is available for the first time. At the age of 91, David Amram credits this to “the serendipity that’s blessed his life.”
The B Side of Live in Germany 1954 - 2013 marks David Amram’s return to Germany 59 years later, where he reunited with Albert Mangelsdorff’s brother Emil Mengelsdorff. Both of them lead a new generation of Germany’s Jazz players in concert at ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe.
After The Fall Records was founded in 2021 by Alana Amram & her brother Adam Amram to release music by family members and collaborators. 200 signed LP’s and a digital release will be available for presale on March 16, 2022.
